Established in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the United States. Presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the Scholastic Awards seek to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their visionary work to the world through recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships at the local and national level. Former recipients include artists Andy Warhol, Richard Avedon, Kay WalkingStick, and John Baldessari and writers Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Stephen King, and Joyce Carol Oates. This year, three Tulsa-area teenagers were selected for the national touring exhibition, on display at the Center for Creativity through October 28. Meet the young artists at a reception on Friday, October 6 and enjoy refreshments, a film screening, an open mic night, and more.
