When I was asked to participate in a surprise for Dr. Weaver, I thought sure that would be fun. I had no idea that the surprise was for me too! As the information was being read about the recipient, I still had no idea it was me. Surprise and shock can only describe my state of mind when my name was stated. It was a tremendous honor to be the first recipient of the Dr. Jan Weaver Veterinary Technology Scholarship Award. At the time I was driving close to two hours one way to attend the Veterinary Technology program at Tulsa Community College. Having received this scholarship has allowed me to continue my education at TCC, move to Tulsa to reduce my drive time and has paid for maintenance on my truck for all those miles spent driving to and from school for the first year. I would like to thank everyone involved for making all of this possible.
Criteria for the scholarship include:
- Selfless service and fiving of oneself for the benefit of others
- Embodiment of integrity and honesty
- Demonstration of a strong work ethic
- Dedication to the welfare of animals
Scholarship recipients will be announced each spring, during the Veterinary Technology Pinning Ceremony. Donations are tax-deductible, through the TCC Foundation, a 501(c) (3) organization.
