The Tinker Tour comes to TCC!

More than 50 years ago, Mary Beth Tinker made history as part of a group of students in Des Moines who donned black armbands to mourn the Vietnam War dead and support a Christmas truce.

That small action got the students kicked out of school and spawned a legal case ultimately heard by the United States Supreme Court – which the students won.

Since 2013, Tinker has toured the country to promote youth voices, free speech, and a free press with the goal of bringing real-life civics lessons to students through the Tinker armband story and the stories of other young people.

She brings the tour to TCC virtually Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. in the C4C. Join us!
