France & Belgium
Culture / Language Emphasis
Experience a small-town feel and get to know some French families and “real” French culture. Expand your horizon: try new food, play “pétanque” with locals, experience a small-town market, and discover the beautiful Champagne region! Then visit Belgium, a diverse and artistic country with world-renowned cuisine. Fall under the charm of picturesque towns like Bruges (the “Venice of the North”), Brussels and Ghent. Stroll the charming medieval streets, admire the incredible and impressive architecture and enjoy real “gaufres” (Belgium waffles), fries, mussels and Belgian chocolate!
Speaking French is not a prerequisite to participate in this trip.

Italy – Rome & Florence
Humanities/Culture Focus
Are you an adventurous learner? Have you dreamed of an immersive international travel experience? Would you like to complete both of your required Humanities General Education courses? Join me for the launch of the TCC Humanities Summer Institute. In June 2025, a group of TCC students will explore the ancient and vibrant city of Rome, Italy. From here, we will wander classical ruins such as the Colosseum and take in masterpieces by the likes of Michelangelo. We will then make our way to Amelia, Italy and participate in the Association for Research into Crimes against Art (ARCA) Interdisciplinary Conference. This fascinating experience will grow your knowledge of the state of cultural heritage protection and the vast world of art crime. Our time in Italy wraps up in Florence where we dive deep into the heart of the Renaissance and experience the beauties of the Tuscan region.
Participants will be enrolled in and complete simultaneous coursework for both HUMN 2113 and HUMN 2223.
Information & Dates
Contact Assistant Professor Mary Kathryn Moeller, with any questions. Interested students should complete the Humanities Italy Trip Interest Form.
Italy - Rome & Tuscany
Writing Focus
This trip to Italy while taking “Introduction to Creative Writing” will enmesh students in the culture, cuisine, and beauty of Rome and Tuscany. First, students will experience the deep history of Rome then we will travel to the Tuscan countryside to learn about how food and culture come together. For those who want to experience “La Dolce Vita” (The sweet life) with delectable food and potential cooking classes, this trip is perfect.
Through this nine-day experience, students will create a travel memoir while learning about different types of writing through an interactive curriculum that will be sure to please all the “foodies” at TCC.

Japan (TRIP NOW FULL)
Japan is extremely clean and safe, with one of the lowest crime rates in the world. The public transit system is highly efficient, clean, and punctual. The food is nutritious and delicious while it may seem very different to an American palate. The people live in harmony and peace (also they are courteous and helpful). The isolated geography has shaped the culture, food, and architecture. Come join the group and experience what you have been missing! Speaking Japanese is not a prerequisite to participate in this trip.

Study Abroad Resources
Traveling abroad does not have to be confusing if you know the right things before you go. If your passport is expiring within the next three months, you need to renew it before departing.

Impact of Study Abroad on Intercultural Sensitivity
In collaboration with TCC’s Office of Planning and Institutional Research, a pre- and post-study was conducted on our study abroad participants to measure the impact of the study abroad experience on students’ intercultural sensitivity. When comparing the pre- and post-surveys, two items were found to have significant changes. Those changes were “I can be as sociable as I want to be when interacting with people from different cultures,” and “I tend to wait before forming an impression of culturally-distinct counterparts.” Of the students that participated in the research, 50% of them had never traveled outside the United States prior to the study abroad trip. In the open-ended question about civic or community involvement, students reported interest in volunteering in the following areas: hospitals, dental clinics, Tulsa City-County Library, voice for Study Abroad, child development, arts, language club, cultural event activities, hosting an exchange student, parks and recreation, and colleges.
