Tulsa Community College West Campus hosts the 2015 Family Fun Fair with free activities for the entire family. The event, a nearly 30-year tradition, helps foster healthy and happy children by bringing families together in a safe and educational environment.
The Family Fun Fair is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 18 at TCC West Campus, 7505 W. 41st Street South. The event provides a number of resources for families in one location, from the hands-on activities for the children, games, prizes, free immunizations for qualified families to the health screenings for hearing, speech, developmental, vision, and dental.
Sponsors of the 2015 Family Fun Fair are Child Care Resource Center, Public Service Company of Oklahoma, and Tulsa Community College and presented locally by the Tulsa Early Childhood Association.
“PSO is pleased to help sponsor the Family Fun Fair activities in recognition of the Week of the Young Child,” said Stuart Solomon, PSO President and Chief Operating Officer. “We have a long legacy of supporting positive educational experiences for children, and we know that the Family Fun Fair activities will stimulate learning for both children and their families in a fun and healthy atmosphere.”
New this year, Amazing Athletes will do four mini sports camps in soccer, football, volleyball and basketball. The Tulsa City-County Library will host a reading corner with a focus on reading and literacy. Educational walks will discover the plant life marked along the Cross Timber Trail through the woods behind campus and will highlight several gardens including the West Campus Community Garden started in 2014 by TCC staff and faculty; the Paw Garden connected to TCC’s Veterinary Technology program with plants that might endanger your pet; and a Native American garden with plants used by Native American tribes.
In addition to the reading corner, the Tulsa City-County Library will give away free books. The Oklahoma Caring Van will provide free immunizations for eligible kids. Legal guardians must bring a present copy of the child’s current immunization records. Prevent Blindness will hold vision screenings using a special camera that doesn’t require young children to verbalize letters or numbers and allows for the screening to be done at an earlier age.
The Family Fun Fair is free and open to the public. The event is part of the national Week of the Young Child sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
