HistoryAfter graduating from Haskell High School, Tayden Lucero attended a small, private, out-of-state college on a football scholarship. Not long after, he found out he was going to become a father, so he moved back home.
“TCC was the best option for me at the time," says Tayden. “It was affordable, and I had a short commute. Plus, the online classes made it a lot more convenient for me with my little girl and my schedule.”
Tayden worked while he attended TCC and majored in History.
“I loved my TCC professors. They were passionate about what they were teaching, which makes it easy to learn and makes you want to learn. They were all accessible through email or if I needed to meet with them personally. That was important to me because sometimes directions may be hard to follow, especially online, and distance can be there. But they were great about making it feel like a classroom even when on Zoom.”
Because of one particular U.S. History professor, Wesley Mosley, Tayden says, “I fell in love with history even more. Sometimes when he would talk about a scene from history, and it was almost like a play. He really made it come to life.”
Tayden graduated from TCC in May 2022 with an associate degree and transferred to Southern Nazarene University.
“My advisors were awesome, and all my credits transferred. It was a really a smooth process.”
He is on track to graduate from SNU in December 2023. His goal is to teach high school History and coach football.
As he reflects on his life experiences, he says his faith is important to him and he is grateful how God has used his family and the TCC staff for guiding him.
