50th Anniversary Notable Alumni Feature Tim Jackson: Tim’s journey to Tulsa Junior College, now Tulsa Community College, came after his service with the U.S. Army which he enlisted straight out of high school. He served as a Cryptographic Equipment Repair Technician in the Army and then he came to Tulsa where he held jobs at NORDAM and CompUSA.
“I'd always wanted to earn a college degree, but came from difficult beginnings,” he said. “I used my GI Bill benefits to attend what was then TJC. During my time at the College, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I enjoyed the non-technical classes as well. Traditionally, I avoided subjects that didn’t directly correlate to my preferred career path, but I ended up learning a lot and having fun. Speech was my favorite unexpected class. While attending, I also met my wife of 22 years, Ashley.”
Tim earned an associate degree in Computer Information Systems in 1997. Two years later, he launched Jackson Technical, which provides IT services. The company recently celebrated 20 years and now serves more than 150 businesses. With more than 15 employees and a downtown Tulsa headquarters built in 2017, the business is thriving and has made the Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing companies for five years in a row. In 2012, Tim won the Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year award by the Tulsa Metro Chamber.
A graduate of Leadership Tulsa Class 48, Tim is also a member of the local Tulsa chapter of Entrepreneur’s Organization. He encourages the entire Jackson Technical team to take part in donating their time and skills to help local nonprofit organizations. He takes great pride in having participated in the revitalization of downtown Tulsa.
