Tulsa Community College’s Theatre Department presents “Keely and Du,” a play written by Jane Martin. The play was a finalist for the 1994 Pulitzer Prize in Drama and winner of the 1993 American Theatre Critics Association Award for Best New Play.

The drama tackles the issue of abortion through the story of a woman who wants to have an abortion and a group that wants to prevent her from having one. The play puts a human face on the extreme edges of a highly charged ideological issue and raises questions about accountability, individual freedom, and religious beliefs along with a woman’s right to choose and the right of the unborn child.

The play is directed by TCC Theatre Production Supervisor and Adjunct Instructor Jim Runyan. The cast includes TCC students Anna Phul as Du; David Moreland as Walter; Bailey Workman as Keely; Stephen Ghely as Cole; Maria Carmona as the prison guard; and Bryan Blevins and Troy Cope as orderlies.

“Keely and Du” will be performed at 8 p.m., April 10-11 and April 16-18, and 2 p.m., April 12 and April 19. All performances will take place in the TCC Southeast Campus VanTrease Performing Arts Center for Education (PACE) Studio Theatre at 81st Street and Highway 169.

The performance contains adult themes and is for mature audiences.

Following four of the seven performances, the play’s director and cast will host audience talk backs in the studio theatre. Members of the audience are encouraged to take part in the discussion and share their thoughts. The audience talk backs are Friday, April 10; Sunday, April 12; Thursday, April 16; and Friday, April 17.
